Shelter for Battered Women in Be'er Sheva
Goal
To establish a new shelter for battered women and their children, who are fleeing a dangerous living environment.
Overview
Since 1994, MASLAN (a non-profit organization to assist female victims of violence) has operated a shelter in Be'er Sheva which can house four women and 12 children. These victims receive ongoing treatment and support during their stay, which can range from a few days to up to eight months, and within the security of the shelter they are given the opportunity to acquire the confidence and inner resources needed to open a new chapter in their lives.

This shelter is the only such facility in the entire Negev region, serving a widely dispersed population of some 400,000 residents. It is operated by a small salaried staff including four social workers, a house mother, and a certified daycare teacher.

Unfortunately, demand far exceeds the current shelter's ability to provide, and a new bigger facility has been planned that will be able to accommodate comfortably 12 women and 36 children. There will also be space for group activities, therapy rooms, children's activities, dining and storage.
