Darom 2016
Goal
To address the needs of children and youth at risk in the south.
Overview
This multi-program initiative was established in 1998 to address the needs of children and youth at risk and their families, living in Be'er Sheva and the southern region. (The title refers to the geographical area – "darom" means "south" in Hebrew – and the year in which the newborns of '98 will become adults.) The project, begun as a joint venture between Sacta-Rashi and the Ministry of Social Affairs, was distinctive in promoting regional solutions and nurturing local service providers to take on a regional role. During the height of its activity (1999-2001), the project included over 100 programs, including support for out-of-home frameworks (such as Kfar Ashalim), a center for child and family in Be'er Sheva, staff training in vocational schools, an emergency center for abused children, summer camps, and after-school enrichment clubs. Also, a shelter for girls in distress.

In terms of focus and vision, as well as the expertise gained during its development and operation, Darom 2016 was a forerunner of the Yaniv project.
