Ashalim-Dorset Children's Village, Be'er Sheva
Goal
To construct new facilities and renovate existing buildings in order to create an excellent physical environment that promotes top-quality therapeutic care.
Overview
The Ashalim-Dorset Children's Village in Be'er Sheva is a residential educational-therapeutic village for children and youth suffering from various problems caused by difficult psycho-social background – severe behavior and mental disturbances, learning disabilities, attention deficiency disorders and so on. It was established in 1980 and is currently home to 80 children aged 7-18. The village is based on the group home model; it includes two family homes, a home for adolescents, a boarding school, an elementary school catering to children in need of special education, and a therapeutic unit for high-risk children that aims to prevent their hospitalization in psychiatric institutes.

The physical infrastructure of the village is in a poor condition, and some of the more hazardous buildings have been demolished. There is consequently a need for new therapeutic and household facilities.
