Sheltered Housing and Day Center for the Elderly with Pets
|
Goal
To establish a residential and social facility for the pet-keeping elderly, in an under-served neighborhood of Be'er Sheva.

|
Overview
This project aims to establish a day center and sheltered housing for independent and handicapped elderly in Neve Noy, a neighborhood of Be'er Sheva with a population of approximately 6,000. For the more than 1,000 residents of Neve Noy who are elderly, there is no social or cultural framework nearby, so they must travel into the center of town for such activities. Nursing care is supplied only within the person's home as there is no neighborhood facility to address this need.
Due to the lack of buildings suited to the specific needs of the elderly population, it has been decided to establish a day center and sheltered housing on one complex within Neve Noy. These facilities are intended to serve the elderly of the neighborhood, as well as of adjacent neighborhoods. The complex will contain 32 sheltered housing units that, while suited to the needs of the elderly person, do not hamper daily activities and allow the elderly person to arrange the day as he/she wishes. At the same time, he/she will be able to keep and care for a pet in the unit, which makes this project unique.
Residents will benefit from social activities offered by the day center, a distress-call answering service, cleaning services and maintenance of communal areas. Social workers, psychologists and medical personnel will also be available. On the upper floor of the center, there will be administrative offices, as well as additional rooms for counseling and activities.
