Internists in Yeruham Community Clinic
Goal
To bring physicians specializing in internal medicine to the Yeruham Community Clinic so as to improve both the quality and availability of medical services in the town.
To provide immigrant physicians with unique training that allows them to work as specialists in Israel, and particularly in peripheral southern areas.

Overview
In 1993 the Department of Internal Medicine of the Soroka Medical center in Be'er Sheva initiated a program to train immigrant physicians, refreshing and adding to their skills so as to bring them up to the standard of westernized medicine as practiced in Israel. As part of this training, the physicians spend part of their internship in the development town of Yeruham, which is located further from a medical center than any other development town, barring Mitzpe Ramon.

As a result, since 1993, Yeruham has had two physicians in the community clinic who are internists by specialization. They are backed by Soroka's senior consultants, which brings the university-hospital closer to the patients in Yeruham. In addition, under the guidance of the physicians, a group of medical students are involved in various projects, such as: training youth volunteers in Magen David Adom, health education in the pediatric clinic, and instruction to diabetics. The Yeruham clinic is now a model for other community clinics. The program is currently training its fourth round of physicians, bringing the number of participants to 12.
