Our Calling
|
The Rashi Foundation is one of the leading private family funds in Israel. Established in 1984, the Foundation is dedicated to assisting the underprivileged in Israel, focusing on children and special-needs populations in the geographic and social periphery of Israeli society.
Our vision is twofold: on a personal level, we are dedicated to helping the underprivileged individual reach his or her true potential; on a national level, we are committed to helping Israel strengthen the weakest links of society.
Our programs have a widespread impact throughout Israel, touching the lives of some 10% of the total population. We concentrate our efforts on three related areas of activity - education, social welfare and health.
As an independent foundation, we are not constrained by bureaucratic obstacles, political considerations or fundraising concerns. Our interest is purely the impact of the program and its benefit for the target population.

Operating Principles
Strategic Partnerships The Foundation strives to build and maintain strategic partnerships with governmental, public and private bodies. By cooperating with private donors, foundations and companies from Israel and abroad, we leverage the financial and operational resources of each partner to improve the chances for long-term program success.
Proactive Philanthropy The Foundation identifies unmet needs and initiates new programs. We take an active role in all stages of project development - from needs assessment and planning to implementation and monitoring - to ensure high-impact programs.
Flexibility and Efficiency The Foundation prides itself on its operational flexibility, innovative approaches and rapid response. Our low overhead and streamlined project management, aided by effective negotiations, help us squeeze the maximum out of every project dollar.
Comprehensive Approach The Foundation employs a comprehensive systems approach, based on an in-depth assessment of target-population needs. We then work to develop a continuum of integrated services at both the local and regional levels.
Interdisciplinary Perspective The Foundation understands the importance of providing solutions that cut across various fields such as education, welfare and health. Based on proven experience, we know how to break down bureaucratic barriers between governmental and municipal bodies for the benefit of needy populations.
Empowerment and Continuity The Foundation trains and empowers local partners to ensure that programs are self-sustaining even after the Foundation disengages from the project. We usually limit our participation in projects to 3-5 years, and define a clear exit strategy at the outset.
